The month of October has been a huge month for me. The month started with a ten day duo tour of the UK with Rhiannon Giddens of the Carolina Chocolate Drops. The first reviews of my album, Vari-Colored Songs, have come out in news outlets such as the Guardian (UK), the Observer (UK), Nouvelle-Vague (France) among a few others and the album is getting a really warm reception. I have spent my past couple of weeks in France promoting the album and doing a lot of interviews with the French press. I couldn’t be happier that the project I’ve been working on for so long finally exists and is out in the world.
This past monday, I played my first show in Paris at club called New Morning where I opened for the legendary Mavis Staples. Here is a picture that a friend took of me from the show. My bow arm looks surprisingly good in this photo! I didn’t get to meet Mavis but I wrote her a letter and left it in the dressing room for her.
When I get back to the states at the end of the November, I’ll be working on a music video for the traditional Haitian song “Mesi Bondye” from Vari-Colored Songs. Can’t wait to share it with you all and hope that the good news keeps on rollin in!!
